Welcome to the second year of medical school, also known as “Phase 2.” The focus of this year’s curriculum is on organ systems in health and disease. There are eight organ system modules, all of which are multidisciplinary. You will learn the embryology, histology, physiology, pathology, pathophysiology, and related clinical material, as well as drugs used to treat diseases of the particular organ system.
Patient, Physician, and Society 2 (PPS2) runs throughout the year and both introduces you to aspects of the broader environment in which medicine is practiced, as well as providing the opportunity for you to develop the skills of medical history taking and physical diagnosis. The year ends with a two-week module: Introduction to Clinical Medicine. This course helps bring the year to a finish by helping you integrate the material of the previous modules, and also helps you learn how to think like an experienced diagnostician.
