Welcome to Phase 3, Year 3 of the MD Program.
Year 3 marks the beginning of your full time clinical experience and includes most of your required clerkships.
It is the longest of your medical school years, spanning 48 weeks.
This website, published by the Office of Curricular Affairs, provides basic information applicable to Year 3 in its entirety, as well as specific information about each clerkship.
Information is provided by the Departments of Community and Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Surgery and is routinely updated. You are strongly encouraged to review the content for revisions as the official start of your third year approaches and again before you begin each new clerkship. Clinical Requirements for Year 3:
- Internal Medicine (12 weeks, 4 of these will use ambulatory care settings).
- Surgery (8 weeks General Surgery).
- Obstetrics and Gynecology (6 weeks).
- Pediatrics (8 weeks).
- Neurology / Psychiatry (8 weeks).
Additionally, two of the following offerings may be taken in Year 3:
- Family Medicine (6 weeks)
- Electives
Clerkships are offered at the Saint Louis University Hospital and a variety of affiliated
public and private hospitals in the St. Louis area.
Basic Science Clinical Correlation Requirement:
Successful completion of the course will require a passing grade on 12 of 20 quizzes over the 2-year course. Students must achieve a cumulative quiz average of at least 60% over the 12 quizzes taken.
